to address the European challenges of ecological restoration

takes place at the University of Alicante on September 5th – 9th

The meeting coincides with the recent proposal for a European Nature Restoration Law
launched by the EC to be debated at #SERE2022

The XIII European conference on ecological restoration “Restoring Nature, Reconnecting People” will be hold on 5 – 9 September 2022 in Alicante (Spain) and organized by the It is organized by the Department of Ecology of the University of Alicante and the Multidisciplinary Institute for the Study of the Environment “Ramón Margalef”, University of Alicante and SER Europe. The conference is an excellent opportunity to foster efficient reciprocal exchanges between managers, private sector, civil society, decision and policymakers and the academia across Europe.
More than 300 scientists, professionals and practitioners of ecological restoration have already registered and over 200 will be presenting in plenaries, workshops, communication sessions and posters. The European Commissioner for the Environment, Virginijus Sinkevičius will present the conference, together with national and regional authorities, University of Alicante and SERE Chair and coordinator of the Conference Jordi Cortina-Segarra.
Over 4 days, including 12 field tours, the conference programme includes new research, innovations, debates, practical action and side-events in a wide range of areas in Ecological Restoration: policy, communication, education, Health, certification, guidance, monitoring, landscape connectivity, rewilding, risks, carbon and renewable energies. All these aspects will be discussed in relation to different types of habitats as forests, drylands, grasslands, wetlands, coastal and marine, mining areas, soils, rivers…
Institutions at global level, will be present in Alicante during the Conference: European Commission, FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation), European Investment Bank, UNCCD (United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification), UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, Government of Spain, SER Global…
Development of networking with the private sector is crucial for the Restoration Decade and a novelty of this Conference is a wide participation of +10 private sponsors that will also present their contributions towards restoration in side-events.
The International Society for Ecological Restoration
The Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) is the professional Society of reference in the field of ecological restoration. It promotes the science, practice, and policy of ecological restoration to protect biodiversity, improve adaptation to climate change, mitigate its effects, and restore a healthy relationship between nature and society.
For almost three decades, SER has given voice to this discipline and provided leadership in all aspects of its development. SER is a dynamic global network of more than 3,000 members. SER Europe has recently developed its objectives under the Strategy 2021-2027, and todays acquaints 400 experts and organizational members in 37 countries with affiliated organizations extending networking in 6 of them.
