Ocean Best Practices Workshop VIII – Striking Gold

15 October @ 17:00 - 18:30

The eighth Ocean Best Practices System Workshop (OBPS WSVIII) focuses on promoting best practices in operational oceanography, vital for interoperable ocean data and sustainable solutions. It includes plenaries on ocean knowledge, policy, and future perspectives, with workshop sessions addressing marine conservation, forecasting, and sustainable Blue Economy.

The EU Mission Ocean seeks to protect and restore marine ecosystems by 2030, fostering sustainability and resilience. This session focuses on governance and management of restoration projects in the Atlantic and Arctic, highlighting best practices from projects like REST-COAST and CLIMAREST – both projects with which SER-Europe works closely to achieve their ambitious goals. Through case studies, it emphasizes the transferability, scalability, and replicability of successful marine conservation efforts, particularly in stakeholder engagement, adaptive management, and innovative technologies. Participants will gain practical insights into implementing these methods across different environments and scales, with discussions on local contexts and challenges. The session supports standardizing practices for sustainable ocean management and resilient marine ecosystems.

Our Marine Restoration Project Officer will present the Principles for Ecosystem Restoration developed as a contribution to the UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration, and which SER was a contributing partner.
