National Standards for the Practice of Ecological Restoration in Australia – Edition 3.0 (2026)
What are the Standards?
The Standards have been designed to encourage all restoration and rehabilitation projects in Australia to reach their highest potential.
The Society for Ecological Restoration Australasia (SERA) and many Partner organisations* have contributed to the development of the National Standards over a 10 year period – carefully considering the needs of all stakeholders.
How were they developed?
The drafting process involved multiple drafts, collectively worked on by the partners in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders including agencies, researchers and industry organisations and individual practitioners.

Launch of Edition 3.0
SERA launched the updated Edition 3.0 of the National Standards for Ecological Restoration on 19 September 2026 with the support of the Australia’s Environment Minister Sen. Murray Watt.
