Beaver Creek Cleanup

July 18, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Throw on your hiking shoes and work gloves and come experience the gorgeous landscapes of NCC’s Fort Ellice Project while helping staff clean up an old yard site along Beaver Creek. Hike through the sand hills and help remove debris from along the banks of Beaver Creek, and then join NCC on a walk along the old fort site to learn about the property’s colorful history.

The project is located at the convergence of Beaver Creek and the Assiniboine River in the East Parklands Natural Area which spans both Manitoba and Saskatchewan. From closed sand dunes along the Creek, to Mixed-grass Prairie and Oak Savannah on the uplands, to aspen hardwoods and Green Ash-American Elm forest along the north facing slopes, this property supports a startling array of habitats.

Lunch will be provided. Sturdy but comfortable closed-toe walking shoes are recommended, as well as long pants and long-sleeved shirts that can get dirty. Water, Sun-screen, bug spray and gloves will be provided. The event will proceed rain or shine. Note: Poison ivy is present in the area, if you are not familiar with its appearance be sure to ask staff to point it out.
