2020 Annual Chapter Meeting Canceled due to the COVID 19 pandemic caused by the coronavirus (SARS CoV-2).

The 2021 annual chapter meeting will be virtual and held in either April or May 2021.  Stay tuned for details.

New! Keynote presentation title.

We are excited to announce that the title of Jennifer Windus’s (Ohio Natural Areas & Preserves Association and Ohio Invasive Plants Council) keynote presentation is Inspiring Conservation and Restoration: Bridging the Gap with Non-profit and Government Partners. Jennifer is the Vice-President of the Ohio Natural Areas and Preserves Association and the President of the Ohio Invasive Plants Council. Additionally, she recently retired from Ohio Department of Natural Resources after more than 31 years.

We are excited to announce that our meeting hosts Cleveland Metroparks will offer a meeting host plenary session and tour on Saturday March 28, 2020 afternoon titled “Acacia Reservation – A Modern Urban Restoration Project”

Our concluding plenary session on Saturday March 28, 2020 afternoon is titled “Ensuring the Health of Ohio’s Greatest Natural Resource – Ecological Restoration of Lake Erie” and will feature presentations by Thomas Bridgeman (University of Toledo Lake Erie Center) and Amy Brennan (The Nature Conservancy in Ohio)

Workshops and Symposia for 2020 Annual Meeting Announced

The SER Midwest Great Lakes Chapter has announced that two workshops and four symposia are scheduled as part of the 2020 SER Midwest-Great Lakes Chapter meeting at Acacia Reservation in Lyndhurst, Ohio. Tentatively, workshops and symposia are scheduled for Friday March 27, 2020. More details will be provided on the SER MWGL Chapter’s annual meeting webpage at a later date, but below are the workshop and symposium titles:
– Sedges, rushes and grasses: identification and use in restoration projects (Workshop)
– Integrating data review into ecological restoration, a field perspective – a workshop on best practices for conducting data review during restoration monitoring (Workshop)

– An unexpected opportunity: managing for habitat on rights-of-way and working lands (Symposium)
– Fore to forest for fins and feathers: a primer on restoring former golf courses (Symposium)
– Building on lessons from the past to forge a new future (Symposium)
– The essential roles of invertebrates in Midwestern landscapes (Symposium)

Field Trips and Volunteer Service Project

Our local organizing committee has organized four great field trips and one volunteer service project for the Chapter Meeting. The field trips and service project will be scheduled for Sunday March 29, 2020 and these field trips and the service project are free to those who register to attend the meeting on either Friday or Saturday. Below are the titles and a brief description of each of the five options for Sunday:

– Valley View Restoration – 100 years in the Making

– Rehabilitating Landscape Legacies to Restore Ecosystem Resilience for the Future
