A Collaborative Conversation about Lake Winnipeg
22 April 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm MDT
Celebrate Earth Day 2015 with an evening of education and insight!
Join the Lake Winnipeg Foundation for a moderated panel discussion about the complex challenges facing our great lake – and the emerging opportunities for shared solutions.
Lake Winnipeg’s health is struggling: large, frequent algae blooms; climate-change-driven floods that wash nutrients into waterways; the recent discovery of zebra mussels. The challenge facing the 10th largest freshwater lake in world is a “wicked problem” – multi-faceted, multi-jurisdictional and costly to fix.
In the past, governments, academic institutions, the non-profit community and others have approached wicked problems from different angles and with different ideas for solutions. But no single organization or agency can resolve such a challenge alone. Increasingly, stakeholders are realizing the power of collaboration.
April 22’s event will bring together experts from different sectors to discuss the way forward.
Panelists include:
- Dr. Alexis Kanu, Executive Director of the Lake Winnipeg Foundation
- Dr. Gordon Goldsborough, Department of Biological Sciences, University of Manitoba
- Norm Brandson, Former Deputy Minister of the Manitoba Departments of Environment, Conservation & Water Stewardship; current Co-Chair of the Forum For Leadership on Water (FLOW)
The evening’s program will begin with a presentation on Lake Winnipeg by LWF’s Marlo Campbell.
Come learn about what’s happening in our great lake – and how you can help create positive change! All lake-lovers welcome.
