Are you a graduate student or upper-level undergraduate conducting research on ecological restoration in Northwest natural systems—or do you know someone who is?

SER Northwest Chapter 2026 Student Grants are now open! SERNW will award three grants of up to $3,000 to support student research that advances ecological restoration in the Pacific Northwest eco-region (WA, OR, AK, MT, ID, Northern CA).

Preference will be given to student members of SER NW or an SER Student Chapter. Graduate students in social or natural sciences, as well as upper-level undergraduates, are encouraged to apply.

Deadline: March 2, 2026 (11:59 PM PST)

Application Process

Please submit electronically using the 2026 Application Form. Include:

  1. Cover page with project title, name, mailing address, email, study system and location, institution, SER membership status, and requested funding amount.
  2. Research proposal (3–4 pages, single-spaced, excluding references) with:
    • Abstract (<250 words)
    • Introduction, research questions, and objectives
    • Methods, expected results, and significance
    • Literature cited
    • Tables/figures embedded in text
    • Clear explanation of how your research supports restoration
  3. Project timetable
  4. Budget and justification, including research partners if applicable
  5. CV (1–2 pages)
  6. Unofficial university transcripts

File submission guidelines:

  • Begin each filename with your last name
  • Use standard file types (doc, docx, rtf, odt, pdf)

Note: If you received an SER NW Student Grant in the prior calendar year, please wait one year before reapplying.
