Our chapter’s 5-year Strategic Plan calls for state-level events to be held annually in the fall in addition to our chapter’s Annual Meeting in the spring. The state events are smaller subregional events organized by the SER MWGL Chapter that are designed to be a smaller additional meeting/gathering of chapter members outside of the annual meeting. Our goal is to hold the state-level event within each state two years after the annual meeting is held in that state. However, we are open to hosting additional state-level events to encourage networking and education among our members. To submit an idea for a state-level event, email us.

Fall 2014 State Event in Michigan
The first state event on October 24, 2014, was coordinated with the annual meeting for the Michigan Consortium of Botanists (MiCOB). The evening before the MiCOB meeting, MWGL SER sponsored a workshop entitled, “Careers and Professional Development in Restoration: A Student Workshop” at the University of Michigan Matthaei Botanical Gardens in Ann Arbor, Michigan. MWGL SER members led a discussion about the restoration process (how to go from concept to completion) and career advancement within different sectors (how to go from student to boss). The workshop received positive feedback from the 34 attendees and several new members joined as a result of this interaction.
