A unique opportunity to network and connect with experts involved in species at risk recovery. The afternoon portion of the event includes a range of speakers discussing the latest in species at risk recovery planning, how to stay informed about the best science, and management options for practitioners and local policy makers and implementers.

The agenda includes:

  • SCCP presenting on its current tools and projects underway that support the recovery of species at risk across the region.
  • Brad Langman (Environment and Climate Change Canada) and Kendra Morgan (Provincial Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations & Rural Development) presenting updates regarding species at risk recovery planning.
  • Stacey Goulding, Lands and Environment Project Manager (Laquamel First Nation) presenting on species at risk intiatives the Laquamel First Nation are involved in, such planning and best practices, and on-the-ground collaborative restoration.
  • Neil Fletcher, Wetlands Education Program Manager (BC Wildlife Federation) presenting on their project to control Yellow Flag Iris at Cheam Lake Wetlands Regional Park.
  • Erika Nassichuk (District of North Vancouver) will present about the single family development process in North Vancouver and the use of various Development Permit Areas to protect natural areas, including the use of eDNA to collect species at risk information.

For volunteer community stewards and members of the public, join the SCCP for an informative evening of storytelling and perspective sharing with conservation champions to learn how community efforts are making a difference for species at risk in our own backyards.
This multi-media event will be a fun and informative evening through the sharing of success stories and presentations by local conservation groups making a difference for species at risk in the Fraser Valley.
There will also be numerous local groups and agencies with displays who will be introduced during the event. Participants looking for advice on helping local wildlife and species at risk will have the opportunity meet with them. Those with ideas on how to make a difference will be encouraged to connect with the various groups that could provide support.
