On February 8, 2018, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change submitted Bill C-69 for first reading that proposes to enact a new Impact Assessment Act and a new Canadian Energy Regulator to replace the National Energy Board. What are the implications of the new Impact Assessment Act and related legislation (amending the Fisheries Act) for Alberta’s First Nations and Métis Groups? What would the changes mean for Pipeline approvals and oil sands development?
