Columbia River Estuary Restoration: Stories From the Field

Speaker: Matt Van Ess with CREST

Where: Lucky Lab Beer Hall in NW Portland  (1945 NW Quimby St, Portland, OR 97209)

When: Wednesday, March 9th. 5:30 pm Networking, 6:00 pm Presentation
Matt will discuss his work with CREST to restore the Lower Columbia River Estuary, its importance in terms of salmon recovery in the entire Columbia River Basin, the BPA Program (funding and project evaluation), and highlight key projects and experiences throughout his work in this dynamic system.

Matt’s background in coastal zone management and experience with Columbia River management issues is ideal for focusing on restoration of rearing habitat for juvenile salmon in the estuary. He is currently the Habitat Restoration Program Manager for the Columbia River Estuary Study Taskforce (CREST). He supervises habitat restoration project managers during landowner outreach, project investigation, permitting, and construction of on-the-ground restoration projects. He also maintains relationships and works collaboratively with partner organizations and funders of CREST’s habitat restoration work.
