Native Prairie Seed Planting

October 3, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

You know the old saying “Reap what you Sow”, well in this case we are sowing what we reap! Join us in collecting seed from Prairie Cordgrass (a wetland species) in the Tall Grass Prairie Natural Area for our prairie restoration, then follow up by hand-planting seed in those parts of the restoration plot that were too wet to access with machinery.

This natural area represents the largest remaining intact block of Tall Grass Prairie in Canada, and supports a number of At Risk species including thePoweshiek Skipperling butterfly and Western Prairie Fringed Orchid. Help us in reclaiming this amazing habitat and learn more about the many species that call it home.

A light lunch and beverages will be provided. Be sure to dress warmly, in layers. Rubber boots or footwear that can get dirty is necessary as some areas may be wet or muddy. Gloves will be provided.
