Blind Canyon, Alberta
Habitat Restoration
Join NCC and the Castle-Crown Wilderness Coalition (CCWC) on a stunning hike into Blind Canyon to tackle invasive weeds on this site which, while remote, is not immune to encroachment from invasive plants.
Please note, the event involves a one hour up-hill hike to access the site, so all participants must be physically prepared & equipped for a strenuous day of hiking. Pack horses will be used to assist in removal of the weeds.
If you’d like to carpool to the event, please click here, https://www.groupcarpool.com/t/t6a748 to add your car or join a ride going to the event. There is also a wait list feature if there isn’t a ride there yet that works for you. Happy carpooling!
Two creeks flow through the property, which features an old homestead site from the 1920s. The property is also part of a key movement corridor for wide-ranging carnivores, such a grizzly bears and wolverine. This area along the Rocky Mountain slopes is a haven for a diverse range of plant life as well. Nine rare species have been documented on the property, including limber pine and mariposa lily.
What you will be doingIn partnership with the Castle Crown Wilderness Coalition, we will be tackling our first volunteer-powered weed pull at an old farm site in the front ranges of Blind Canyon. We’ll be targeting several restricted and noxious weeds, including burdock.
Why you will love itEnjoy a stunning hike into Blind Canyon led by local guide, Wendy Ryan. Take in the beautiful scenery and learn about both the natural and human history of the area.
