Invasive Species Removal Field Day
24 June 2015 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm MDT
Roadways are gateways into nature, not only for people but also for weeds. The areas bordering roads are often the first point of entry for many non-native species, making them areas that are at a higher risk for biodiversity loss.
More than half of Alberta’s native plant species can be found in the Waterton area – some of which can be found nowhere else on earth. You can help prevent biodiversity loss! Take a trip into a landscape rich with plants and animals and join forces with NCC to protect native plant communities from invasion by weeds.
Together we’ll remove patches of invasive hound’s-tongue, knapweed and scentless cammomile near targeted roadways on the Birdseye Ranch conservation lands bordering Waterton Lakes National Park to prevent their encroachment into the native habitats.
During the day you’ll have the opportunity to get a “Bird’s-eye View”of the Waterton area! NCC has been harnessing the power of aerial and satellite technologies in unique ways to further our conservation work. NCC staff will share some of our imagery of the Waterton Park Front with the group and talk about the exciting ways technology is being used to enhance our field work, research and science planning!
