An evening of exploring the science, practical challenges and future of restoration projects in BC

State of the Art of Ecological Restoration in BC Ken Ashley, Director of the River’s Institute, BCIT Learn about restorations around the province – what is working and what is not, as well the effectiveness of instream aquatic restorations.

Coastal Stream Restoration using Large Woody Debris – A Decades Long Perspective Derek Ray, Senior geomorphologist, NW Hydraulic Consultants & Leandre Vigneault, SEHAB rep. Haida Gwaii. Long-term challenges of stream restoration using LWD in more remote areas and how this work can address impaired stream processes, sedimentation issues, bank erosion, channel stability, and habitat complexity.

Integrated Stormwater Management Planning & Local Restoration Opportunities Jack Minard, Chair, SEHAB How modern Integrated StormwaterManagement Planning can create restoration opportunities in urban settings by building partnerships with municipalities and Regional Districts as they embrace green infrastructure as valuable assets.

The DFO Restoration Framework and What It Means to the SEP Volunteer Community” Adam Silverstein, Manager, Community Involvement and Resource Restoration, Salmon Enhancement Program, DFO The new SEP Planning Framework for Restoration Projects – providing a regionally consistent approach to habitat restoration; outlining an annual planning process; providing a tool to communicate the planning process to program partners and the public; and highlighting how the planning process links with departmental and program priorities providing a structured method for prioritizing and selecting projects.
