Elk Glen Cleanup and Hike

May 23, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Want to get out and spend some time in the fresh spring air? Join NCC staff in removing old fencing and cleaning up debris at the Elk Glen project just south of Riding Mountain National Park. Located in the Riding Mountain Natural Area, this project supports a diverse array of habitats from fescue prairie to mixedwood forest, swamps to Oak Savannahs and is home to bears, moose, wolves, and, of course, Elk.

After the clean up, join staff in a hike through some beautiful fescue prairie and learn more about this rare grassland and its management.

Lunch will be provided. Sturdy but comfortable closed-toe shoes are recommended, as well as long pants and long-sleeved shirts that can get dirty. Water, sun-screen, bug spray and gloves will be provided. The event will proceed rain or shine. Note: Poison ivy is present in the area, if you are not familiar with its appearance be sure to ask staff to point it out.
