Climate Change in the North Columbia Mountains

March 11, 2016

The changing climate is becoming more obvious each year. Recent analyses for the North Columbia Mountains illustrates potential long-term changes for the climate and local ecosystems. Greg Utzig of Kutenai Nature Investigations Inc. will describe these analyses and explain how these changes might impact forestry, tourism, recreation and other land-based activities.

This workshop is comprised of a series of presentations and interactive sessions whereby participants will apply new information about climate change in the North Columbia mountain area to their responsibilities and interests. Participants will:

  • Increase their understanding of the current climate change projections for the North Columbia region
  • Be introduced to new analysis of potential bio climate envelope shifts resulting from the projected climate changes
  • Be supported to consider how these changes might impact their activities and identify potential adaptations to minimize negative impacts and take advantage of opportunities
