This is an open invitation to all residents of the Town of Pincher Creek, the M.D. of Pincher Creek and Oldman watershed citizens who just want a new experience to remove noxious and invasive weeds along our creek. Come prepared to pick weeds and return to the staging area for beef, beverages, prizes and conversation.

Bring your own bagged lunch, drinking water, hat, sunscreen, bug spray, sturdy shoes and lawn chair(s) for afterwards.

Please do not bring your dog. Absolutely No Dogs, Please!!

Some reminders for Volunteers

  • Walk forwards, but take a look backwards too; blueweeds sprout just after you walk by!
  • Glance away from the creek to. Most plants are within 15 m of the creek, but there are places where they may be 100 m away hidden in willows, etc.
  • Wandering aimlessly, with a partner may work well for you.
  • Make a note with the team leader, to identify locations of outbreaks so that the land owner (or MD crews) can return and take action with a sprayer.
  • Watch for rosettes (1st year plants) and try to dig them out with shovels.
  • Try to avoid carrying weeds in bags with holes as this may spread seeds.
  • Keep track of all bags and ensure they are all returned to staging area.
  • This is a competition, so please record the number of full bags on your crew signup sheet when you return.
  • Always respect private land.
  • Awards will be presented for the Biggest Wreck, Determination and of course the prestigious Bent Back Award. Please discuss nominations with the organizers after returning.
