A Highlight with Annette Bosman

1. Who are you and what are your land relations?

I am a biologist and settler on this land. I grew up in Prince George, which is the traditional
territory of Lheidli T’enneh First Nation. However, I now reside on the traditional territory of the
Squamish, Musqueam, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations.

2. What’s your favorite kind of restoration project?

My favorite kind of restoration project is one that includes First Nations and plants. I have
always enjoyed learning about the cultural importance of plant species on coastal BC.

3. What kind of work do you do?

I have worked in a variety of different sectors, but my most recent has been consulting. I mostly
focus on aquatics related projects which includes salmon restoration projects with First Nations.

4. What advice do you have for students and emerging professionals?

Learn as much as you can, even if it’s not within your desired career path. When I first started
out in the industry, I was working on marine, freshwater, and terrestrial projects. As I changed
companies, my career developed more on the aquatic side of projects, and I was able to start to
work towards aquatic related restoration projects.

5. What is or are one of the biggest challenges in restoration?
The biggest challenge that I have come across in restoration, is the timeline for projects to get
started.
