About Cowichan Garry Oak Preserve, DuncanThe Cowichan Garry Oak Preserve is the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s flagship property in the Cowichan Valley. This 52-acre (21-hectare) preserve is one the last best examples of deep soil Garry oak ecosystem left in Canada. The meadow and woodland portion of the preserve features centuries-old Garry oak trees towering over grassy meadows full of native wildflowers. Dozens of rare and at-risk species thrive here, including many types of bees and butterflies, delicate flowers and small woodland animals.

What you will be doingVolunteers will lend a hand with a wide range of activities: pulling invasive species, working in the native plant nursery, planting seedlings and other stewardship tasks.

Why you will love itThe Cowichan Garry Oak Preserve is one of the last and best examples of this globally rare ecosystem. Working among the groves of mossy Garry oaks is a great way to get out and appreciate the beautiful and intricate nature around us. Bring a friend!
