9:30am – Depart for Restoration Field Tour (Banff National Park)

Field Tour Description: Banff National Park is undertaking a number of initiatives to restore ecological integrity in the Park.  SER-WC members have a unique opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes tour with Parks Canada staff to visit field sites to see and discuss the bison reintroduction, prescribed burning, and revegetation programs. One of our tour leaders is Karsten Heuer, who is a noted author, adventurer, and leader for the Yellowstone to Yukon initiative for large-scale restoration and conservation.

All tour participants must bring their own water, a bag lunch, suitable footwear and outdoor wear for spending up to four (4) hours outside in the fall weather conditions. We will car pool from Elevation Place following the event registration to minimize the number of vehicles, and then we will drive to the Banff Warden Office (on Hawk Avenue in the Banff Townsite Industrial Area) to meet with Parks Canada. The tour will begin at 10:00 am.

All vehicles will have to stop at the Banff Park Gate and ensure they have a day pass for the vehicle and pay the entry fee that is based on the number of adults (bring cash). Parks Canada needs to know the estimated number of vehicles in advance for permitting purposes and planning stop locations with sufficient space for parking, so please register by September 20, 2015, indicate on your registration form and if you are willing to take passengers and drive gravel roads.

2:00pm – Return to Elevation Place

3:00pm – SER Western Canada AGM (Elevation Place Room 212, 700 Railway Avenue, Canmore Alberta)

6:30pm – First Board of Directors Meeting (location TBA)

8:00pm – Informal Social Gathering and Restoration Discussion (Location TBA)
