After cancelling our 2020 and 2021 conferences, the Texas Society for Ecological Restoration (TXSER) is thrilled to present the first in a series of regional networking events to gather the restoration community. The Central Texas Restoration Reunion will take place on November 12 from 6pm-10pm at the newly renovated Smith Visitor Center at McKinney Falls State Park. This casual event will offer some aspects of a traditional TXSER conference, while maintaining an informal feel and requiring no expensive overnight travel – a poster session for interested students to present their research; career exploration exhibits to connect emerging professionals to opportunities in academia, private firms, and the public sector; and food and drinks!

Tickets are $20 for TXSER members – join here and be sure to select Texas as your chapter! Students and anyone else with a financial need will be admitted free of charge but must reserve a ticket. We also encourage you to join SER under reduced or free rates through the Membership for All initiative. Join or learn more here.

Event Details

The Central Texas Restoration Reunion takes place from 6pm-10pm at the Smith Visitor Center at McKinney Falls State Park (5808 McKinney Falls Pkwy, Austin TX 78744). When you arrive at the front gate, please inform the staff that you’re attending the TXSER event and they will let you in at no charge. Take the second right turn toward the Upper Falls area of the park, and parking for the visitor center will be on your right.

Refreshments include a vegan taco bar, cookies, and – for those of legal drinking age – a variety of beer, wine, and hard seltzers. Our friends at Rambler Sparkling Water have generously donated several cases of sparkling water! Please respect the state park rules and do not take any alcoholic beverages outside of the vicinity of the Visitor Center. Our event will be nearly zero-waste as we will be utilizing plates, flatware, and napkins from the Austin Dish Lending Library. Make sure to recycle your empty cans and bottles in the provided receptacles.

6pm-7pm – Career exploration hour: network with our sponsors and other professionals representing the private sector, non-profits, and academia to learn more about what it takes to make a career in restoration!

7pm-7:30pm – Poster session: student researchers will share their knowledge. You can view the presenters and abstracts here. We encourage attendees to engage with them and ask questions, while also keeping in mind that this may be the first-ever presentation opportunity for some of these students!

7:30pm-10pm – Anything goes! We are so happy to gather the ecological restoration community after all this time – we hope you enjoy networking, learning more about the great things restorationists are doing around the region, and just being in the company of kindred spirits.

Thanks to our sponsors!
