Student resources for attendance at the SER-NE / Conway School 2014 Conference.
We encourage students to attend this conference to explore options for professional and academic careers in ecological restoration. The field of ecological restoration is vibrant and values student involvement. As the planet faces increasing ecological challenges, we all require continued infusion of optimism and new ideas, and the New England chapter of the Society for Ecological Restoration is recruiting students to help us with these challenges. Therefore, SER-NE and the Conway School have created the following resources to help students join the conference.
Please note that, due to overwhelming interest, all available discounted registrations for student attendance at the conference have been taken. Students are welcome to register for the conference at the full rate.
Student grants: ALL AVAILABLE GRANTS HAVE BEEN PROVIDED
There are a limited number of grants available to help defray the cost of student attendance, including waivers for registration and funding for travel. Registration grants are available to full-time registered undergraduate and graduate students who have submitted an abstract or who are volunteering their assistance. Additional travel grants of $50 are available to full-time undergraduate and graduate students who must travel more than 50 miles (one way) to attend the conference and who have submitted an abstract for a talk or poster. All grants require membership in SER-NE, and all of them will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to qualified applicants.

Please note that most colleges and universities, and often many departments within those schools, also provide funding for students to attend conferences, especially if they are presenting a talk or poster.
Conference volunteering
There are a number of jobs available at the conference that students can volunteer to do. All students attending the conference are eligible to participate. None of these positions would interfere with attending sessions or otherwise participating in the conference. Volunteering is an ideal way to interact with the conference organizers and attendees.
Poster judging
Students are encouraged to submit posters. The poster session will be held as part of a “poster pub,” which encourages interaction between other conference attendees and the poster presenters. No talks will be held during the poster session. Prizes will be awarded to the top three posters, as judged by a professional and academic panel.
Field trips and design charette
The Saturday field trips and design charette will enable direct interaction between students and other professionals. The design charette, in particular, will be a hand-on experience in which all participants, including students, professionals, and even one of the plenary speakers, work together.
