Field Trip #1–Montague Prescribed Burn Area Tour

Tim Simmons of the Massachusetts Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program will lead this fascinating tour to a site with a history of 14 years of prescribed fire. The tour will show how the site and the more than 20 conservation species of concern have responded to the fire treatment. The tour is limited to 21 participants. Travel will be provided from Hampshire College to the tour site and back by 12 passenger vans, personal vehicles are discouraged. 9 am – 2 pm. Box lunches will be provided, with vegetarian and vegan options available. Attendees with other dietary requirements or restrictions are requested to plan accordingly.

 

Field Trip #2–Bartlett Rod and Gun Club Dam Removal on Amethyst Brook Tour

Tour leaders Alex Hackman of the Massachusetts Division of Ecological Restoration and Robin MacEwan and Michael Chelminski of Stantec lead this tour of an interesting dam removal project, including the discovery of a hidden surprise – another relic dam upstream buried in the sediment! The tour is limited to 21 participants. Travel will be provided from Hampshire College to the tour site and back by 12 passenger vans, personal vehicles are discouraged. 9 am – 2 pm. Box lunches will be provided, with vegetarian and vegan options available. Attendees with other dietary requirements or restrictions are requested to plan accordingly.

 

Field Trip #3–Connecticut River Bio-engineering Sites Tour

Tour leader Mickey Marcus of New England Environmental (and the SER New England Board) will lead this tour of challenging erosion control work using innovative techniques along the river’s edge. The tour is limited to 21 participants. Travel will be provided from Hampshire College to the tour site and back by 12 passenger vans, personal vehicles are discouraged. 9 am – 2 pm. Box lunches will be provided, with vegetarian and vegan options available. Attendees with other dietary requirements or restrictions are requested to plan accordingly.
