This design charrette (a fast-paced, hands-on workshop) will be part of the “Designing for Success: Ecological Restoration in Times of Change,” to be held April 25 & 26, 2014, on the Hampshire College campus, Amherst, Massachusetts. Sponsored by the Society for Ecological Restoration – New England Chapter (SER-NE) and The Conway School. You don’t have to register for the conference to participate in the design charrette.

• This one-day workshop is free, fast-paced, and hands-on. It is for college students and professionals interested in ecological restoration and environmental education.

• Work side-by-side with top professional designers/restorationists, including: Keith Bowers, landscape architect, restoration ecologist, president at Biohabitats, and president at Ecological Restoration and Management, Baltimore, MD; and Paul Cawood Hellmund, ecological designer, author, professor at The Conway School, Conway, MA.

• No design or habitat restoration experience is necessary.

What’s up

The fifty-year-old Hitchcock Center for the Environment is planning a new home—a new and visionary environmental learning center—on the Hampshire College campus, on a site (north of Hampshire’s Red Barn) that presents significant opportunities for ecological restoration and environmental education. The goal is achieve Living Building Challenge™ (LBC) Certification, the highest standard for sustainability in the built environment. The site is adjacent to the college’s Farm Center and could offer pollinator habitat or other ecological benefits

There is no cost to participate in the charrette, but space is limited and pre-registration is required.  Register here. Participants should bring a lunch or plan to buy it in Hampshire’s dining commons.

 

All are invited to and there is no registration required for the public presentation of the day’s work at 2:30 pm.
