2025 Webinar Recording – Natural regeneration in restoration: helping nature to heal itself
In this webinar, learn from three speakers who are overseeing successful natural regeneration projects. Two speakers from Australia discuss freshwater wetland restoration projects and one speaker from Columbia discusses rain forest restoration.
1. Brian Bainbridge – Biodiversity Officer, Hepburn Shire, Victoria Australia. ‘ Waiting for regeneration before planting can pay dividends’ Brian has 3 decades experience in restoration in Victoria Australia – and his talk focused on his experience of some riparian sites in Victoriia where unexpected natural regeneration occurred and subsequently changed their formal approaches at other sites.
2. Dr. Eliana Molina, Head of Nature Restoration at NatureRe. “Harnessing Natural Regeneration in Antioquia, Colombia: A Scalable Path to Forest Recovery’ . Eliana’s talk focuses on the early outcomes of a large-scale Assisted Natural Regeneration (ANR) project in Antioquia, Colombia, where 700 hectares of degraded land have been under restoration since late 2022.
3. Damien Cook – Director and Senior Restoration Ecologist at the Wetland Revival Trust. ‘The use of assisted natural regeneration in restoring wetland and floodplain vegetation to improve habitat quality for endangered fauna’ . Damien’s talk focuses on a restoration project at Wirra Lo, a 180 ha ex-pastoral property in Victoria, Australia. (As his talk was pre-recorded, Damien could not answer questions during the webinar – but we have uploaded Damien’s answers here: RESPONSES TO QUESTIONS TO DAMIEN_COOK_Q&A Report for 30 July Webinar.)
