Employment Opportunity: TNC in Burns OR now hiring two 7-month seasonal restoration technicians

The two (2) Innovative Restoration Field Technician (FT) positions are full-time (35 hours per week) term positions from March 2024 to November 2024, with possibility of extension for an additional spring-fall term in 2025. The positions are based in The Nature Conservancy’s Burns, Oregon field office. The FT positions will contribute to the Conservancy’s efforts to improve restoration of western dryland ecosystems traditionally dominated by sagebrush plant communities. Specifically, the two Field Technicians will assist with testing seed enhancement technologies in the lab and field, conducting vegetation monitoring before and after seeding and herbicide treatments, and contributing to other projects related to native perennial vegetation restoration in wildlands across the West that are prone to invasion by exotic weeds. This work requires following detailed protocols in the lab and field, including seedling identification and measurement, repetitive vegetation data collection and entry, seed germination trials, seed sorting and handling, coordinating and leading installation of experiments, and laboratory organization/cleanup. Other projects may include, but are not limited to, traveling to other states (ID, NV, UT, WY) to install and monitor field experiments (up to 40% travel), conducting fieldwork on Conservancy preserves, performing controlled germination experiments, and assisting with vegetation restoration and management projects in collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies.
