This 52-acre (21-hectare) preserve is one the last best examples of deep soil Garry oak ecosystem left in Canada. The meadow and woodland portion of the preserve features centuries-old Garry oak trees towering over grassy meadows full of native wildflowers. Dozens of rare and at-risk species thrive here, including many types of bees and butterflies, delicate flowers and small woodland animals.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"more-information__header\">What you will be doing<\/span>Volunteers will lend a hand with a wide range of activities: pulling invasive species, working in the native plant nursery, planting seedlings and other stewardship tasks.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"more-information__header\">Why you will love it<\/span>The Cowichan Garry Oak Preserve is one of the last and best examples of this globally rare ecosystem. Working among the groves of mossy Garry oaks is a great way to get out and appreciate the beautiful and intricate nature around us.
