Kootenay Native Plant Society & Selkirk College proudly present an evening with\u00a0Ethnobotanist Dr. Nancy Turner.<\/p>\n
This is a very special and rare opportunity to hear Canada\u2019s preeminent ethnobotanist!<\/p>\n
Drawing from decades of community-based research across British Columbia,\u00a0Dr. Nancy Turner will share her immense knowledge and personal insights on the\u00a0ethnobotany of native plants with a special focus on traditional root resources.\u00a0Dr. Turner is a Distinguished Professor and Hakai Professor in Ethnoecology in\u00a0the School of Environmental Studies, University of Victoria. She is a prolific\u00a0public speaker and author, including the RBC Museum publication Food Plants\u00a0of Interior First Peoples, originally issued in 1978.<\/p>\n
Dr. Turner has received many\u00a0honours including the Order of British Columbia, the Slow Food Award in Biodiversity\u00a0(2001); Member of the Order of Canada (2009); and Honorary Doctorates,\u00a0Vancouver Island University and University of British Columbia (both 2011).<\/p>\n
