Today I work in consulting providing\u00a0expertise in project\u00a0management, product development, education, and technical guidance for mitigating risk in different environments.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\"><b>Do you volunteer for any environmental organizations?<\/b><\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\">I have served on the SERWC board for over 10 years, currently serving as Chair.\u00a0 I also volunteer on the CERP review committee for SER international.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\"><b>What has been your greatest accomplishment or what are you most proud of?<\/b><\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\">Working to implement restoration work for long enough to recognize what it is, what it is not, and that it does\u00a0<i>work<\/i>, is an accomplishment. Restoration takes a long time.\u00a0\u00a0Pure restoration work is tough to come by, and though remediation or reclamation are alternatives, they are not a substitute if the work has clear intent.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\">Past tangible results, to have\u00a0been mentored for it, had opportunities to do it, and to do it long enough to\u00a0see processes evolve has been the greatest\u00a0privilege.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\"><b>What advice do you have for students and emerging professionals?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>To students &#8212; chance is abundant, restoration is an experiment, so don&#8217;t let perfect get in the way of better.\u00a0 It can take a long time to find something that works for you,\u00a0 so double down on the areas you can excel to augment the quality of impact you can offer..<\/p>\n<p>For professionals &#8212;\u00a0 mentorship is a lease.\u00a0 It is the confidence you can offer someone else who can&#8217;t yet see it in themselves.\u00a0 Start this process so others can recognize how simple it is to do for someone else, someday.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6331 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/chapter.ser.org\/westerncanada\/files\/2022\/11\/aowens.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"577\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chapter.ser.org\/westerncanada\/files\/2022\/11\/aowens.jpg 300w, https:\/\/chapter.ser.org\/westerncanada\/files\/2022\/11\/aowens-78x150.jpg 78w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What kind of work do you do?
