Between 2009 and 2011\, more than two miles of river bank were treated using tree root wads\, wood\, rocks\, and plants to reduce sedimentation\, improve fish habitat\, and save the greenbelt path from undercutting. Dr. Tony Hoch (Director and Water Quality Specialist\, Laramie Rivers Conservation District) will talk about this successful community and inter-agency collaboration\, which he oversaw from 2009 to 2011.

DESCRIPTION:Restoring Colorado Front Range forests:\nEcological foundations\, science communication\, and shared stewardship\n  \nMike Battaglia\nU.S. Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station \nKathie Mattor\nColorado State University\, Department of Forest and Rangeland Stewardship\, \nColorado Forest Restoration Institute \n \nAs the U.S. Forest Service increases the pace and scale of restoration in ponderosa pine forests\, there is a need for science based information to help inform these activities. While ponderosa pine forests occur throughout the Western U.S.\, each region has specific nuances that limits the transfer of a ‘one-size-fits-all’ management design.  At the request of the Rocky Mountain (FS Region 2) Regional Forester\, \nRMRS GTR-373: Principles and Practices for the Restoration of Ponderosa Pine and Dry Mixed-Conifer Forests of the Colorado Front Rangewas prepared by a diverse author group to provide local\, forest science in support of Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration (CFLR) projects and other forest restoration in this region. Scientists\, land managers\, and stakeholders worked together to ‘co-produce’ knowledge about desired conditions\, principles\, and monitoring metrics which helped form the framework for restoration of low and mid-elevation ponderosa pine and dry mixed conifer forests along the Colorado Front Range.  The local science-based recommendations presented in this GTR is expected to be integrated into forest restoration planning on National Forests and along other private and public ownership along the Colorado Front Range. \nIn additional to bringing together many authors and stakeholders to develop a framework for forest restoration\, this publication has been followed by a significant outreach effort. In our pursuit of an “All Hands\, All Lands” approach to Colorado forest restoration\, targeted outreach efforts and field workshops included county\, state and federal land management groups\, private consultants and universities. SUMMARY:2018 HAR Summer Field Tour
DESCRIPTION:The High Altitude Revegetation (HAR) group is at it again with their bi-annual summer tour. The 2-day field tour will visit several vegetative restoration sites in the northern Colorado Front Range affected by the 2013 floods on July 10thand 11th. The floods created unique sites and challenges for restoration efforts. This will be a once in a lifetime experience to be on sites not available for public access and to see challenges in revegetation that are a first occurrence in the history of the region. Discussion of the processes will be at restoration sites during the day\, as well as in an evening panel discussion with Emergency Watershed Protection leadership and technical assistance team personnel that will be hosted by the Central Rockies chapter of the Society for Ecological Restoration (CeRSER). \n  \nDue to fragile condition and/or limited accessibility of sites\, field visits will be limited to 100 participants and all tour participants must ride on buses provided. There will not be any exceptions. Each day\, buses will be departing from and returning to the South Parking Lot at the Boulder County Fairgrounds (Longmont\, CO).
