This year has been a productive one for the Midwest-Great Lakes SER Chapter. Several Board members served on the Local Organizing Committee for the SER\u2019s Fifth World Conference in Madison, Wisconsin. The Chapter was designated as 501(c)(3) non-profit organization by the Internal Revenue Service, which has helped the Chapter financially. We will be offering our first competitive Student Research Award in 2014 (see <a href=\"https:\/\/serchapter2018.wpengine.com\/midwestgreatlakes\/student-grants\/\" target=\"_blank\">grant information<\/a>), and the Board has nearly finished a 5-Year Strategic Plan. Support and interest in the Chapter has increased and our membership grew this year from 148 members on 1 April 2013 to 232 on 23 October 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The Board of Directors of the MWGL SER Chapter wish you happy holidays, and we look forward to seeing you at the <a href=\"https:\/\/serchapter2018.wpengine.com\/midwestgreatlakes\/current-meeting\/\" target=\"_blank\">2014 Annual Meeting<\/a> at the University of Minnesota (March 28 to March 30, 2014).<\/p>\n<p>Roger C.
