{"id":755,"date":"2024-12-03T12:18:47","date_gmt":"2024-12-03T19:18:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chapter.ser.org\/greatbasin\/?p=755"},"modified":"2024-12-03T12:18:47","modified_gmt":"2024-12-03T19:18:47","slug":"job-opportunity-great-basin-institute-seed-collection-technicians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chapter.ser.org\/greatbasin\/2024\/12\/03\/job-opportunity-great-basin-institute-seed-collection-technicians\/","title":{"rendered":"Job Opportunity &#8211; Great Basin Institute &#8211; Seed Collection Technicians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Great Basin Institute, in cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and National Park Service (NPS), are recruiting\u00a014\u00a0Native Seed Technicians to conduct seed collecting and ecological restoration activities throughout the Great Basin on Department of Interior (DOI) lands.<\/p>\n<p>More information and a link to the application portal can be found here: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paycomonline.net\/v4\/ats\/web.php\/jobs\/ViewJobDetails?job=174600&amp;clientkey=A1ADEF5691B02D64E998539442696918\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Native Seed Program Technician (Multiple Locations)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Technical requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bachelor\u2019s degree with coursework and field experience related to biology, botany, ecology, plant science, taxonomy\/systematics, or related field;<br \/>\nExperience identifying plants using taxonomic keys or familiarity with plants of the Great Basin;<br \/>\nExperience with data entry;<br \/>\nExperience using hand-held GPS equipment for data collection and navigation;<br \/>\nAbility to read and navigate using topographic maps and a compass;<br \/>\nFamiliarity driving 4WD vehicles on- and off-road;<br \/>\nExperience operating All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV) on difficult terrain, helpful for certain locations;<br \/>\nUnderstanding and\/or experience using ArcGIS Pro, and ESRI apps like Field Maps and Survey 123, helpful.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Willingness and ability to work in harsh, ever-changing desert conditions, including extreme temperatures, and as part of a team;<br \/>\nWillingness to camp in remote, undeveloped sites for multiple days, up to 8 days;<br \/>\nAbility to bend and stoop for long periods of time while collecting seed, and to use hand tools, and occasionally lift buckets of water and other heavy loads;<br \/>\nAbility to work a non-standard schedule, such as beginning at 5 am, to avoid heat-related issues, to follow plant phenology, or for coordination with team members.<br \/>\nAbility to communicate effectively, both written and orally, with a diverse audience;<br \/>\nStrong interpersonal skills and willingness to work as part of a tight knit team (Crews will be two people, which requires technicians to co-lead, take initiative, and behave in a manner that promotes team integrity);<br \/>\nAbility to work independently or in pairs with little supervision, strong initiative, and high attention to detail;<br \/>\nPossess a valid, state-issued driver\u2019s license and clean driving record<\/p>\n<div aria-label=\"Qualifications\">\n<div id=\"jobQualifications-row\">\n<p>Please apply online through the application link above by submitting an up-to-date resume, one page cover letter that details your interest in the position and any qualifications not fully described in your resume, contact information for three professional and\/or academic references.
