What is SER-BC?
The British Columbia Chapter (SER BC) is a regional chapter of the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER), which is headquartered in Washington D.C. SER has over 2,000 members in more than 70 countries and 14 regional chapters spread out across North America, Europe, Australasia, and Asia.
The inaugural meeting for the BC chapter was held in April, 2000. SER-BC is a diverse group of ecologists, researchers and restorationists from all over British Columbia and western Canada. They come from the ranks of consulting, business, government, universities, interest groups and the general public. The common bond is the concern for the health of BC ecosystems, and direct involvement in projects to restore those systems.
Across the globe, centuries of unsustainable activities have damaged the aquatic, marine, and terrestrial environments that underpin our economies and societies and give rise to a diversity of wildlife and plants. The Society of Ecological Restoration is dedicated to reversing this degradation and restoring the earth’s ecological balance for the benefit of humans and nature.
The Restoration Showcase is an opportunity to share the need for, and success and challenges of restoration projects in a British Columbia context. If you are currently working on a project email us and we may showcase your efforts.
